This work-in-progress is oil on masonite, about 30″ x 40.” I’m trying to paint a copy of Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s Netherlandish Proverbs. If you’re curious to see the original, you can do that here on Wikipedia’s page about it:
We took our vacation out West, and I snapped lots of pictures to bring home.
This painting is based on some of those. It’s a little bigger than 36″ x 48″ and I’m using this unusual kind of stretched canvas that has rounded edges, and needs no frame.
This is about 40″ wide, oil on canvas as usual.
I haven’t worked on this one for a long time. My original intention was to fill the canvas with figures and faces and animals and things, in a collage-like way, while preserving the overall image of a shaft of light shining down into the woods.
The finished painting can be seen on my Still Lifes page. This is a photo of the work in progress along with the actual instruments I was painting.
